Joaquin Phoenix is Johnny Cash, or the next best thing, playing the “man in black” like he was slipping into his skin. Reese Witherspoon is even more impressive opposite Phoenix, both generating great chemistry with terrific acting and singing. This music biopic is a cut above thanks to Logan director, James Mangold, who operates without leaning too heavily on tried-and-tested formula, allowing the truth and music to flow organically.
Lifelong fan or newbie, anyone can enjoy Walk the Line for its chilling performances, captivating storytelling and amazing tribute to the enigmatic Johnny Cash.
