Animania Fest’s Big 5 on M-Net Movies 2
This December, you’re in for a bumper holiday extravaganza of animated movies as part of the Animania Festival on M-Net Movies 2 (channel 106) or via Catch Up on DStv.
Get your popcorn ready and gather your friends and family… here are some of the best animated films you can look forward to this month!
1. The Wild Robot
A futuristic robot named ROZZUM or “Roz” is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island. A tale of nature versus technology, she becomes a guardian to a lone gosling with some help from a fox named Fink, undergoing a profound journey of motherhood while trying to adapt to living in the wilderness.
Some magical films turn every frame into an artwork. The Wild Robot is an unreal animated sci-fi adventure that captures this stunning aesthetic – a feast for the eyes. Simple yet sophisticated, The Wild Robot is sparsely scripted but emotionally resonant and uplifting, able to fill your heart with a deeply moving story.
2. How to Train Your Dragon
How to Train Your Dragon, a whirlwind of an animated action adventure, follows scrawny Viking teen Hiccup, who tries to capture a Night Fury dragon to prove himself to his chieftain father and an island of fierce dragon-riders.
A buddy movie, between a boy and his pet dragon, this charming, heartwarming and soaring
adventure features breathtaking animation, a powerful score and a beautiful message about
changing the world by having the courage to be yourself.
3. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
A sidekick to Shrek, Puss in Boots is now a standalone hero, now onto his third swashbuckling adventure in The Last Wish. Having used up 8 of his 9 lives, the legendary outlaw must travel to the Dark Forest to find a Wishing Star or face his own mortality.
This eye-popping sequel features high-end animation, making a notable upgrade from its predecessors and taking our fierce feline to new heights. Battling a host of new adversaries and his own ego, Puss reteams with Kitty Softpaws to stay one step ahead of the Wolf in an attempt to restore his 9 lives.
4. How to Train Your Dragon 2
Now a legendary team, Hiccup and Toothless, stumble upon a secret ice cave, home to
hundreds of wild dragons and a mysterious Dragon Rider. A life-changing new discovery, the
lair is put under threat by a tyrannical conqueror intent on harnessing an army of dragons.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 recaptures the magic of the original and builds upon this world through unmapped territory and dragon lore. High-flying action, spectacular visuals and spirited camaraderie underpin this excellent sequel. Jay Baruchel and Gerard Butler return to voice Hiccup and Stoick with Cate Blanchett and Djimon Hounsou joining the stellar voice cast.
5. Transformers One
Transformers has become more famous than ever with a little help from Michael Bay. Dialing things back, this prequel takes place many moons before on Cybertron, where two worker robots and best friends stumble upon a conspiracy. Their startling discovery and newfound ability to transform finds them drifting apart and on their paths to become sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron.
An action-packed, epic and dazzling animated sci-fi adventure, Transformers One focusses on the heartbreak of a brotherhood, offering insights into the planet’s class structure, politics and history. A soulful chronicle of their friendship, it starts as a buddy comedy and gradually evolves into an intense drama.
This month’s Animania Festival also includes: Lego Batman, Sing 2, The Bad Guys, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the Kung Fu Panda sequels and Troll World Tour to mention a few! Still want more animation in your life, head on over to the Kids Club Festival on M-Net Movies 4 (channel 108).
