The Premise
Close to Home follows Ava, a 40-something author seeking creative renewal on a solo writer’s retreat to a sleepy, windswept seaside village. She revisits the home in the hopes that the rhythmic churn of coastal tides and physical isolation will offer space to heal. When her daughter reveals she may not be alone, her sanctuary begins to unravel into an inescapable psychological labyrinth.
As the boundaries between reality and buried trauma begin to blur, Ava discovers the most dangerous place to hide is within the echo chamber of one’s own mind.
The film explores the friction between isolation and introspection. Ava’s dark memories breach the surface as she tries to find a way to trust again. Close to Home questions whether we ever truly leave our history behind and how we’re forced to suspend our suspicions in order to trust again.
