WKNDwatchlist – Better Man, Furiosa and Nosferatu

This week, we’re talking about three dark fantasies in The Animal Within: Better Man, Furiosa and Nosferatu.

What are YOU watching this weekend? We’re talking about three dark fantasy films that explore animalistic and raw instincts of the human condition in The Animal Within.

Better Man

Better Man is a spectacular, raw reinvention of the music biopic. Director Michael Gracey takes a bold swing, portraying pop star Robbie Williams entirely as a CGI chimpanzee. What starts as a gimmick becomes a powerful, emotionally resonant metaphor for Williams’ inner demons and primitive reactions. Masterfully woven and surprisingly honest, it’s a wild, authentic journey that breathes new life into a well-worn genre. It’s brilliant, absurd, and deeply entertaining.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

George Miller returns to the wasteland with Furiosa, a plucky prequel trading Fury Road’s grit for surreal spectacle. Anya Taylor-Joy is fierce, while Chris Hemsworth shines as the charismatic Dementus. Spectacular action and gritty performances help this epic production design overpower any “video-game” shortfalls, ensuring this saga burns bright in the desert sun.

Nosferatu

Robert Eggers’s Nosferatu is a visually intoxicating gothic nightmare. It’s a haunting tribute to the original, anchored by a truly grotesque Orlok and a captivating Lily-Rose Depp. While the meticulous atmosphere is spellbinding, the cold, formal dialogue creates a slight emotional disconnect. It’s a gorgeous exercise in aesthetic horror – perfectly unsettling, even if you’re left feeling a bit adrift.
