WKNDwatchlist: Unabomber, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Over Your Dead Body
This week, we take a wild cinematic journey – from the chilling unraveling of an infamous domestic terrorist, to high-octane wartime bravado, to the blood-spattered marital warfare of a brutal cabin showdown in Guerilla Etiquette.
Unabomber
Unabomber ditches the usual cabin lore for a chilling, Fincher-esque origin story. Intertwining the 1996 manhunt with the abusive Harvard experiments that broke a young Ted Kaczynski, it plays like a dark antithesis to A Beautiful Mind. Anchored by an imposing Russell Crowe and Shailene Woodley’s procedural drive, it’s a deliberate thriller that dares to humanize an outlier without pardoning the monster.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare plays less like stiff history and more like a rowdy comic book. Henry Cavill leads a swaggering squad of rogues mowing down Axis forces in a barrage of slick violence. While it skimps on real peril, Ritchie’s wink-wink bravado keeps this raucous popcorn romp firing on all cylinders.
Over Your Dead Body
Over Your Dead Body weaponises a clever, Mr. & Mrs. Smith-style cabin showdown. Jason Segel leans into his comedic warmth, but his charm can’t soften characters who remain difficult to champion. It’s an odd, jarring cocktail of pitch-black humour and unrelenting brutality – gleefully unhinged for anyone with a twisted funny bone.
